Got a day off so listening to a book while doing some and is very interested in it!

Listening to The Wake Up by Michelle MiJung Kim (@mjmichellekim@twitter.com) - it's a good book and has made me think a lot about what my "activism" should look like, especially around what I am willing to give up in order to achieve equity/equality - comfort, convenience, career progression, wealth...?

I think the cats approve of my new OnePiece fluffy Puppy jumpsuit, which arrived today. They tested it for quality with their paws before settling down! #CatsOfMastodon #Catstodon #cosy #clothes #jumpsuit #onesies

Project Include is working on a blogpost/articles on nonbinary workers and on transgender workers in tech. We are looking for resources we can highlight, and experts and workers we can interview. We're eager to get many perspectives of people from a diverse set of backgrounds. We are willing to pay people for their time, too. Please reach out if you have ideas or can otherwise help!

picking a mastodon server to join is easy -- just think of it like you're allying with one of many families in a war-torn medieval land, each with their own histories, feuds, laws, blood rituals

@Mechanival this was an excellent tip! Much happier with the experience after making the switch, thanks! Next up I need to find a way of adding a birdsite tab to one of these clients so I can cross post easier

So it's happened, I caved in and set up my own instance so here's a quick toot about my and the kinds of stuff I'll be putting here.

I'm Danny Ockilson (nee Wilson), live in Aberdeen with my wife Soph (_jumpingjuniper_@instagram.com) and our cat Zelda (hrh.zelda@instagram.com).

We're vegan (cept the cat) and alcohol free so expect occasional and drink recommendations :) 1/5

So, if Twitter goes to hell and just becomes defunct, we’re going to lose entire chapters of recent history — including evidence of war crimes, human rights violations, and more. I hope we’re all paying attention to this and considering what we need to do to ensure that a billionaire can’t decide which parts of history to retain — and which parts to erase forever.

Out for the last hunt of the season and nice view for our picnic, Muir of Dinnet in overlooking Loch Kinord

Daily reminder to use Tusky instead of the main Mastodon app, because it supports:

- Being able to tap the name of someone who has reblogged something to go direct to their profile
- Adding a profile banner from the app
- Critically, access to the Federated timeline

choosing a Mastodon instance/server, special heads-up for mastodon.social users

If you're in the #TwitterMigration and you just made your first #Mastodon/#Fediverse account on mastodon-dot-social, note: it'll be hard for its maintainers to keep up, and that leads to 2 big risks

My quick #introduction: I'm Molly White (she/her) and I'm a software engineer who's been doing a lot more research and writing lately than software engineering.

I research and write about the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry with a critical perspective, and I run web3isgoinggreat.com/ (also on fedi at @web3isgreat). I also write newsletter.mollywhite.net/.

When I am writing software, it's mostly on that website, or various Python tools to help me with analysis of hacks/etc.

Feels like only a matter of time before news orgs jump in on the #fediverse directly, can see {insert news org here} running an instance, integrating with existing moderation/publishing tools and shoving all their journos on a custom domain. Instant credibility for them... If you see a "anne@theguardian.com" you know it's a verified source (whether you agree it's a good source or not is a different issue). Is this happening already? #journo #journalists #mastodon #futureOfFedi

For now though this will be my way of keeping up to date with things I care about and boosting content I think is interesting (for what it's worth with all ZERO followers I have). Focussing on promoting voices of folks commonly over looked and regularly spoken over in tech circles; especially at the intersections of and technology cause as @kimCrayton1@twitter.com says "tech is not neutral, nor is it apolitical" /fin

I've set up justweb.dev primarily cause I had the domain and didn't do anything with it but also so I could setup my own little corner of the the way I want it. Initially the instance will really just be for me but I might open things up later if others like what's going on here but need to invest some time on solid community guidelines, moderation rules and legal support before being responsible for other folks data. Reach out if your interested anyway, happy to chat :) 4/5

I'm a member of the United tech and allied workers Union - the tech branch of the (communication workers union) and think it's important that all workers fight to protect ALL workers rights If you've not already you should think about joining a union ;)

I actively support the people's right so strike, to protest and to use those techniques to shine a light on issues of inequality, inequity, corruption, extraction and abuse 3/5

I used to run community events primarily in the @scotlandphp@twitter.com and @aberdeenphp@twitter.com but drifted away from that during COVID, I will likely get back into community events at some point but unlikely to focus on PHP as I've not actively used in many years now. That was what I originally bought justweb.dev for... 2/5
